The Faith of a Praying Mother

Happy Mothers Day;

My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother; For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck, (Proverbs 1: 8,9)

It is a wonderful privilege to be able to honour mothers. For those who have been blessed with ‘godly mothers’ it is a double blessing. Motherhood is one of God’s greatest gifts to humanity. A loving, committed mother is an indispensable person in our development. Mothers instill powerful social and nurturing characteristics in us. It is primarily from mothers that a child learn the virtues of sacrifice, sharing, valuing others, compassion and a host of skills and values that remain with us over our lifetime.

Mothers are designed by God to nurture. There is no greater nurturing power on the planet than a mother. When the Apostle Paul was describing his love for the church at Thessalonica, he used the metaphor of a mother’s love to describe how much he cared for the Thessalonians. He reminded them that he was like a “gentle mother who tenderly cares for her children.” (1 Thess. 2:7)

This Sunday, be sure to show your love and appreciation to your mother, the mother of your children, or a godly woman who has shown you nurturing love…
