‘Prepare for War’…

Surprises, whether good or bad, have the potential to set us back a little. Like the person who works hard at his job because he likes doing what he does. When a promotion comes his way because of the way he conducts himself, he is genuinely surprised. Other times however, can be heartbreaking. Like the person who goes for a regular checkup, feeling good, only to be told, “We found something…“Surprises can challenge our comfortable place in life.

When Jesus revealed God to us, it had, and can still have an unsettling effect on us. He stretches the limits of understanding God. Jesus allows us a clear glimpse of the Father. The surprising side of God challenges us to rethink our spiritual and biblical paradigms. We can lose sight of all He brings into our lives. One of those ‘surprises‘ is the ability to stand against the ‘wiles of the enemy‘ (Eph. 6:17)

The devil can surprise us as well, but we need not fear. (‘ Greater is He that is in me… weapons formed against me will not prosper…’) He prowls around like a roaring lion seeking to devour us, but he is toothless. Even though he knows he is on a short leash, he continues to try to catch us unaware. He may surprise us, but when we have been surprised by Jesus revealing His salvation to us, our confession and repentance give us the ability to stand. He promises to never leave us or forsake us.
