People, Problems & Power

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,

let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us,

and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1)

I love this verse. I have a picture in my study at the church, depicting this verse with a preacher surrounded by the saints mentioned in the 11th. chapter of Hebrews. The picture has a story behind it, but that’s for another time. For me, the saints pictured are a reminder that it’s not what you have, it’s what you do with what you have that makes all the difference. Many people begin the ‘good fight of faith’ but they forget to add patience, persistence and endurance to their enthusiasm.

Someone has well said; “Consider the postage stamp. Its usefulness consists in its ability to stick to something until it gets there,” You and I should be known as ‘postage stamp Christians’.

Many times our dreams and plans appear not to be succeeding. We are tempted to give up and quit trying. Instead, we need to continue to nurture those dreams and visions that God has placed within us. When we don’t quit, we display the testimony of perseverance and endurance.
