“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
We can’t get to heaven based on our parent’s faith. We can’t get to heaven based on our pastor’s faith, or anyone else’s faith. You can hear about Jesus and what He has done for others, but that is ‘secondhand faith’. In Matthew 16:13 Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” But then in verse 15, He asks the most important question… “Who do you say that I am?”
Do you know Jesus, or do you know about Him? Is your faith first hand or secondhand? Faith is a response to the Word of God. That’s the reason we have the pulpit. That’s why I preach, so that people can hear the Word of God. If you want people to believe, you have to give them something to believe in. We must give them the Word of God.
