It has been a long, cold winter! What a blessings to finally see the sun, the grass starting to grow, the tree buds coming out and hearing the birds sing. We love our 4 seasons, but this was rough and spring is such a welcomed blessing!!!!
It has been awhile since I have last written to you all. Some of you may know this but most do not know – yet.
Believe it or not, we are going to Haiti in August (12-21)! To see how God has led us to go back is amazing! Never in our wildest dreams did we ever think this would be trip # 6 for me and trip # 4 for Bob! We have agreed to lead another Galcom (www.galcom.org) team to Haiti and are so excited! As long as God continues to provide, we will continue going. We have such a burden for the people of Haiti – sharing the Gospel and distributing the solar-powered radios is a privilege! We do not know how many more times we will be doing this and for all we know, this may be our last trip. Only God knows. But for now, we will be obedient to His call and go out. Secret telling smile
A lot of you have been so faithful in praying for us each time we go to Haiti. Honestly, if it wasn’t for your prayers, we’d never go! We count and depend on your faithfulness to uphold us before the throne of God. For us, this is THE most important thing we need as we go out. And so, we ask for your prayers again. We really need you to be part of our team.
If God touches your heart to be part of our support team also, please see the attached support flyer. Bob and I have this “thing” about support…First of all, we absolutely hate asking!!!! Pride I guess! Unless we have all the financial support in by the middle of July, we don’t feel we can go to Haiti. Having all the finances in, is just a stronger confirmation for us that we are meant to be in Haiti and leading this team. We depend and rely on Him to provide before heading out. These are our personal convictions – each team member is different.
At this point in time, there are 6 confirmed going on this trip. Four of us are from our church (yes, we are sooo proud of that – yeah, Onward Gospel Church!). The other two are ladies from Ontario – they don’t know any of us and we don’t know them.
Having said that, we ask that you pray for team unity. Apparently the number one reason missionaries leave the field is because of conflict between team members. We are only 6, but the 10 days could be real long if there is conflict, so please pray that all goes well. We’d love to have at least 2 more people join us from our church so you can pray for that too. (Or if YOU would like to be part of our team – email me)
Pray that many come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Pointing upThat is why we are going – this is an evangelism and radio distribution trip. Pray that God would already be preparing the way and opening hearts to hear and receive the Gospel. Pray for the churches and leaders that will be doing the follow-up after we leave.
Pray also that we would be able to handle the heat. When we were there last September, it was exceptional hot with temperatures above 100 degrees. We kind of move a lot slower in this heat…We don’t want too much rain either Lightning… the roads are awful when it rains.
Pray also for good health and that no one gets hurt or sick. Safety in travel Work is also a prayer request. We travel standing on the back of a flatbed cattle truck – no seats, no seat belts. It’s just the way things are done down there and we never drive fast. It’s actually quite fun! Nevertheless, we need His protection as we move about.
Spiritually, we ask for prayer as well. As you know, there is a lot of voodoo in Haiti. Pray that God would remove any spirit of fear anyone may have on the team. We belong to Jesus and no one, not even the devil can hurt or harm us! Greater is He that is in us that he that is in the world! Amen! Pray that we get to share the Gospel with witchdoctors – if they come to Christ, there’s a good chance a whole village will also. We’ve seen it happen before.
Pray also for the families and church we leave behind and that God would give them a sense of His peace as we go.
My personal prayer request (most of you know this…), pray that I don’t see any spiders or snakes or if I do, that He would remove the fear. There are no venomous snakes in Haiti so that isn’t an issue. But there are snakes and I just do NOT like them or spiders of any kind…
Okay, so this is kind of a long first letter so I’d better sign off… Again, we THANK YOU for praying for us and the team. It means EVERYTHING!!!!! If you have any questions, please feel free to write or call us.
Blessings and enjoy the spring weather,
Bob and Viv
